Come grab some to try!

We decided to cook up some of these meatballs to try for ourselves! We were NOT disappointed! Dino’s was opened in 1969 by a man named Anthony Furucci, and he and his family took local Italian meat to the next level. The meatballs pictured below are a long time family recipe!

All Dino’s meatballs are homemade with an old fashioned element to them. They are made with fresh beef that includes nothing but muscle meat, only the best goes into these meatballs! A special ingredient would be the fresh Romano cheese that perfectly compliments the freshly ground beef. Inside the room where all the meatballs are made is a cheese grater use on imported Romano cheese wheels, this way the cheese is always fresh and available to use as needed in every batch of delicious meatballs. Dino’s also uses all fresh shelled eggs in their recipe, no frozen eggs or other substitutions!

They are constantly striving for perfection, never straying from their authentic Italian family recipe.

A classic plate of spaghetti and meatballs can be elevated in flavor when you use Dino’s meatballs (pictured)!

Here are a few words from satisfied customers!

Best meatballs on the market and better still they’re local!
In my 60 years I have never tasted better Italian sausage than Dinos.
One of the best sausage vendors I’ve ever worked with.
Literally the best sausage in the world.

Don’t wait to try these meatballs! Stop in to Miller’s Meat Market to pick some up for dinner!

Honey Sriracha Buffalo Wing Sauce!

Ingrediants:

5 TB butter

1/2 cup pure honey

1/4 cup sriracha

2 tsp freshly squeezed lime juice

1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

1/2 - 1 tsp garlic powder

Garlic parmesan is a fan favorite when it comes to chicken wing sauce! It is personally my go-to, so I wanted to guarantee that all my blog readers have a great garlic parm recipe! The delicious grated cheese and salty garlic flavor come together to make the perfect classic wing sauce. You can also switch up the recipe, add some honey if you prefer a sweet wing, or add some hot sauce if you like some extra heat!

Meet Lea!

Wow, December is just flying by! Christmas is right around the corner, and I know I’m not the only one filled with excitement for this special holiday. Here at Miller’s we love this season of joy. We love getting our lights hung on the porch, and little touches of Christmas can be seen all around our store and custom shop. We hope that every time you visit our store you feel the Christmas cheer. I know one employee in particular that will never fail to make you smile and bring that Christmas joy into your day. If you are a regular store customer then Lea’s face is not a new one.

Lea Wangerin was born in Aschaffenburg, Germany and moved to the United states when she was 5 years old. Her father served our country in the military, which caused many moves throughout her childhood. She grew up in New York, with her 7 siblings and Lea was the second oldest of the Wangerin children. Lea has enjoyed baking ever since she was young, and her kitchen memories stretch way back. Lea’s mother was a talented pastry chef in Germany, so Lea loved learning all her mothers baking tricks so that she would become a great baker herself. The two of them love the Christmas season, and take pride in their holiday treats. Lea explained to me that she and her mother made cookies together every Christmas, they would fill giant tins with delicious homemade goodies for all the neighbors. She elaborated and told me they would make at least six different kinds of cookies, and invite others into their home to bake with them and enjoy the tasty results of their work. Growing up Lea’s specialty was brownies, she told me that they had a spectacular recipe, and everyone loved when we would whip up some delicious brownies. She also spent a lot of time making bread throughout her years at home, her mom is known for homemade sourdough bread. Lea’s baking days definitely didn’t end in her childhood home. She went on to be a head baker at a food co-op for about 2 years, and now uses her talent here at Miller’s Meat Market. It was about a year ago when Lea began working here at Miller’s. She had moved to our area not knowing anything about our store, but a close friend thought it would be a good fit for Lea. She was then approached by Sherri Miller, who offered her a job. Lea cheerfully told me that she and Sherri hit it off right away, and she quickly fell in love with Miller’s Meat Market. She said with a smile that Miller’s is the nicest place she has ever worked, and she thoroughly enjoys interacting with all the customers. Lea spends her days at work baking, cashing out customers at the register, and helping out anywhere else that she is needed. Her goal everyday is to “make people happy however [she] can”. Since Lea started working at Miller’s, she has learned more about different cuts of meat, and has expanded her baking experience even further. Her days at the cash register have showed her that there are still so many nice and amazing people in the world.

What is Lea’s favorite Miller’s Meat Market product??

“It is a hard choice because I love so many things, but I have to go with the double smoked pepperoni, maple cotton candy, and the maple pecan granola we sell.”

Lea has gotten very creative in the Miller’s Meat Market bakery. This memorial day we introduced new cheesecake pies that had beautiful and festive designs that suited the holiday perfectly. Those were amazingly created by Lea! She hand placed each fresh strawberry and blueberry into lovely flag or floral designs that made the perfect topping for her creamy no-bake cheesecake. She made each cheesecake that we sold. Since this dessert was a hit for memorial day, we went on to sell them for the 4th of July and then for the remainder of the summer months. When the holidays came around, Lea came up with new variations of her cheesecake. We now sell a pumpkin cheesecake, and a mixed berry compote cheesecake. Both are full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. New this holiday season is also two kinds of homemade cupcakes, both made by Lea herself. The first is a hot chocolate cupcake, with a brownie like cake and yummy marshmallow frosting. The second is a gingerbread cupcake! A chocolate base with gingersnap flavored frosting and crumbled gingersnap cookies on top! Lea tested many different ways to make each of these cupcakes to make sure she was giving our customers her best. The employees were thrilled on taste-testing days, every treat was great in our eyes but Lea just kept making them better and better! When I tried Lea’s cupcakes, she asked me which one I preferred, and I just could not choose! Both the cheesecake pies and the cupcakes are perfect for holiday get-togethers. If you order either of these products, you are guaranteed to get a dessert made by Lea. She does each order herself, and does a fantastic job.

Now is the time to place an order for one of Lea’s treats! If you need a contribution to a meal or gathering, these are the perfect desserts! A half dozen cupcakes costs $4.99, and the cheesecakes are $15 each. I think you all need to try Lea’s baking for yourself. I have loved getting to know Lea while she’s been working at Miller’s, and I hope you have enjoyed getting to know her through this blog as well. When Lea isn’t working she loves hanging out with her friends, travelling and going on trips, she loves being outdoors when the weather is nice and she also enjoys photography. Lea’s big dream would be to open a florist shop! She would want to incorporate baking into her shop, and have her baked goods for sale inside. She told me that she would love to highlight German baking, and make new things for people to try. While we all hope Lea’s dreams come true someday, we love having her at Miller’s Meat Market and we are glad that she is here to stay for the time being! Next time you are in the store be sure to give Lea a big smile, she will without a doubt return the favor!

Thank you all for reading the blog! Although they are posted much less regularly than in the past it still brings me great joy when I can put one out for all my readers.

Remember to spread peace and joy throughout every day, and have a very Merry Christmas!

Venison-Stew-9374.jpg

Here is what you need to make this perfect for Fall meal!

Ingredients:

1 lb. venison stew meat

1 Tbsp. olive oil

2 and 1/2 cups diced potatoes, I left the skin on (about 3 medium sized potatoes)

2 cups diced carrots

1 cup diced celery

1 large onion, diced

2 garlic cloves, minced

2 tsp. Italian seasoning

1 tsp. salt

3/4 tsp. black pepper

1 15 0z. can diced tomatoes

4 cups unsalted beef broth

3–4 dashes Worcestershire sauce

One you have gathered all these ingredients we are ready to construct this tasty stew!

Is your appetite building yet!?

First, start by making sure all your stew meat is in nice bite-sized chunks, being sure to remove any of the silvery sinew tissue. Leaving this on makes the meat tough. The continue on and add the olive oil to a large pot, and heat the oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, allow the venison to sauté for approximately 5-7 minutes or until the edges of your stew pieces start to brown, then remove the meat from the pot and set it aside. Next turn the heat down to medium and add the potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion. Allow the vegetables to sauté for about 8-10 minutes, or until they've begun to soften. The next step is where we add all the mouth-watering flavors! Add the garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and let the potatoes, vegetables, and seasoning all cook together for an additional minute before adding the tomatoes, broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Then, add the venison back to the pot, stir it well and bring the stew to a boil. Once a boil is reached, turn the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and allow the stew to simmer for 1-2 hours until the venison is tender. After the correct time has passed, your homemade stew is ready to be served! Of course it is best served warm, and I would definitely recommend some fresh bread to go along with your warm tasty dish! Stop in to Miller’s Meat Market to pick up a fresh loaf of bread or some dinner rolls to complete your meal perfectly!

I will without a doubt be trying this recipe! It sounds absolutely delicious, and of course it’s a great way to use that fresh venison! If you ever try this recipe, please tell us how it goes! You can leave a comment on our Facebook or Instagram posts, or tag us on either of those platforms @millersmeatmarketny! I am so thankful for those of you that read the blog, and share it with others! I will continue to do my best to give you helpful and interesting content. Continue to enjoy this beautiful fall season, and good luck to all those hunters that are reading! We hope to meet you when you catch that deer you’ve been tracking down!

Have a very special Tuesday!

Local Fall Beverages!

Happy Tuesday, everyone! How is everyone enjoying October? These months have just been flying by! If you have read the past few blog posts then you should know by now that I am just one big fall fanatic, and the Miller’s Meat Market blog is beginning to resemble a fall fan page! There’s no harm in that, right!? There are so many things to love about the crisp fall weather, and one of those things is definitely having a delicious warm drink in your chilly hands. It is so nice starting my day off with something tasty to warm me up on my way into work, and the fall flavors are impossible to resist! There are plenty of spots around Lewis county that are offering delicious beverages that go right along with the season. I have tried a drink from all of these businesses, and I have yet to be disappointed! After reading this blog you will be torn next time you are deciding where to get a nice fall treat, so make sure you give all these local business a try while their specialty fall drinks are on the menu. You do not want to miss out! On my list of top tier local places to get festive fall drinks is Gary’s Restaurant, PB&J Café, and Moving Mountains Café. Each of these local business offer different types and flavors of fall weather appropriate drinks, and they all are fantastic. Keep reading to see what you need to try this October and November!

Pictured below are some specialty hot chocolates that you can get at Gary’s Restaurant. Drinks like these are perfect to sip on while you chat with your lunch date. There is nothing better than catching up with friends while you warm up with something tasty! Gary’s is a great family friendly restaurant with delicious homestyle plates of such a wide variety. There is definitely not a lack of yummy options when you sit down to eat at Gary’s! Not only will you find a hearty meal to enjoy, but everyday there is homemade desserts available as well. A specialty hot chocolate with a piece of homemade cake or pie!? Sounds like the perfect combination to me! You can get one of these yummy cocoas from Gary’s on Monday- Friday from 8AM to 2PM. They are open for breakfast and lunch!

The first photo is a picture of a hazelnut hot coco, then a drink that is new to Gary’s this year, a pumpkin spice latte, followed by a cup of mocha joe with added raspberry, and lastly on the right is a salted caramel hot chocolate. Be sure to try one of these before the season is over, or try all three and see which you love the most! They look great in the photos, just imagine how tasty they would be!

Next up I highly recommend the PB&J Café! We love this little spot in Lowville and we have never once been disappointed. It is regularly that we at Miller’s order lunch from PB&J, and every time it is as tasty as could be. It was earlier this season when my co-worker, Nicole, brought me a maple steamer one morning from PB&J. It was delicious, and it made me so excited for fall! It was that morning that my idea for this blog popped into my head. A break from our regular Dunkin’ coffee was refreshing, and just made we want to try more drinks from more local business. When I reached out to the café to see what fall favorites they have on their beverage menu, they came through with some very delicious looking options that couldn’t be any more perfect for fall. This local café is a perfect place to catch up with a friend. The atmosphere is peaceful and homey, and I can’t get enough of the bagel sandwiches! If you haven’t tried PB&J, get to it! And don’t wait until these special fall drinks are off the menu!

Above you are seeing three super tasty fall drinks from the PB&J Café. Pictured we have a classic pumpkin spice latte, you can’t go wrong with that in October! There is also a pumpkin white mocha, and a maple ginger latte. Each of those sounds like perfection in a cup! Next time you need a place to unwind with a nice warm, fall flavored drink, don’t forget about PB&J! I can’t wait to try these this fall!

Lastly, I want to tell you all about Moving Mountains Café! This place is spectacular, and it is the only business out of these three that hasn’t been featured on the blog before today! Just like Gary’s and PB&J, Moving Mountains is a great environment to bond with the people you love over good food and drinks. Specialty fall drinks to be specific! They have a great fall menu so you are bound to find the seasonal flavor that you are craving. Moving Mountains Café is located in Croghan, a step outside of Lowville but still a perfect local place to stop for coffee or breakfast. You can visit the Moving Mountains Café anytime from 5AM to 2PM any day of the week except for Sunday. This café always has something delicious, so be sure to stop in and try a specialty fall drink next time you are out and about enjoying the fall weather!

Moving Mountains has one of the most elaborate fall drink menus that I have seen yet! So many delicious options that would be perfect any day during the next few fall months. On their menu they offer a pumpkin chai latte with sweet cream cold foam, a caramel apple latte, a salted caramel white mocha iced latte with salted caramel cold foam, of course a classic pumpkin spice latte, and one last drink called “the perfect fall frappe”. The perfect fall frappe is a pumpkin, caramel, and cinnamon loaded frappe topped with caramel drizzle and pumpkin drizzle with added cinnamon spice. Wow, that one really does have all the fall flavors! Of all these options, I don’t have a clue what one I want to try most! Clearly, if you decide to try Moving Mountains you will not struggle to find something delicious.

Are you craving something pumpkin spice yet!?

I sure am! I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, I LOVE fall. Writing about all my favorite fall flavors has got me wanting to visit these local business as soon as possible! We love to include local business in our blog posts, so we are very happy to recommend the fall beverages from these three local spots. Like I earlier stated, I have tried drinks from all three places and they are all a 10/10 from me! But go and try them out for yourself! Continue to support local businesses next time you need a coffee. Remember to share this blog so other’s can see these special fall drinks, and check out the Facebook pages of these three local eateries.

Thank you so much for coming to read to blog! Have a great week!

Roasts tend to have a quick and easy prep time, and then you just let your oven or crock pot do the rest of the work! If you think this sounds like a great deal on bulk roasts, but aren’t sure how you would prepare these cuts of meat, we are here to help! Below we have recipes from Marvel and Charlene Miller on how they like to prepare roasts, so if you are looking for a way to cook up these roasts then keep reading!

These two amazing cooks are willing to share their secrets!

Marvel Miller’s “Sticky Chicken”

4 tsp. Salt

2 tsp. Paprika

1/2- 1 tsp. Cayenne Pepper

1 tsp. Thyme

1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder

1 tsp. Onion Powder

This one is super easy! Just mix all these ingredients together and rub on chicken. (It is okay if there is extra on the chicken, more flavor!) Then let that cook in the crockpot for 5-6 hours.

Charlene Miller’s Pork Loin Roast

1-4# Loin Roast

2 Tbsp. Dijon Mustard

1 Clove Minced Garlic

2 Tbsp. Chopped Red Onion

2 Tsp. Salt

1/2 Tsp. Black Pepper

1 Tbsp. Dried Rosemary

Once you have gathered your ingredients, begin by trimming excess fat off of the roast, except for the strip down the middle. Then rub the roast with mustard followed by all the spices. Lastly, sprinkle with rosemary over the top before you bake it in the oven! Start the roast at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, then at 300 degrees for 1-2 hours. The roast should reaches 145 degrees by that time. Then it is ready to enjoy!

Charlene Miller’s Pork Shoulder Roast
When Charlene prepares pork shoulder roast she keeps things simple and tasty. She begins by poking the tip of a knife into the fatty side of the roast. Then she takes slivers of garlic and sticks the garlic in the pockets made throughout the roast. Finally just use salt and pepper to season both sides of your roast. Cook fat side up at 350 degrees.

Charlene Miller’s Chuck Roast

For this recipe, you should use about a 4 lb Beef Chuck Roast. Take 1 can cream of mushroom soup, and smear it on top of the roast. Then use 1 pkg of dry Lipton onion, and sprinkle it on top. Fill the soup can with water and put in bottom of roaster, do this two times. Once all these steps are completed, bake this roast at 350 degrees for 4 hours. Feel free to add some whole carrots, med whole onions and quartered potatoes for a bigger and more delicious dish!

Just look at all these festive treats!

Wow, where do I start!? I get so excited about these delicious fall flavors. I suppose I should start with the classic favorite, and that is of course apple cider! During these lovely fall months we carry Burrville Cider. Can you think of a better fall treat then fresh local cider? The Burrville Cider mill is always such a great place to visit, however if you can’t make the trip swing by to Miller’s - we have you covered! We sell cider by the gallon for $6.99, the half gallon is $4.99, and the bottle size for $3.49. We are huge fans of apple cider, it is delicious cold and fresh, and just as tasty warm and mulled! Which way do you prefer to have your cider? This time of year we also make our very own cider donuts! They are a customer favorite and we love them too! We use Burrville Cider in every batch of cider fry cakes, and this makes them just even more delicious than normal! If you have yet to try our version of cider donuts make sure you do before the season ends. We make them fresh every single morning, and they are a perfect start to these beautiful fall days! You can get a dozen for $6.99, a half dozen for $3.99 or if you just need one for your drive to work or a mid day snack, pick one up for just a dollar! If a donut is a little too sweet for your morning, we also now have a very large variety of fresh apples for sale! Another fall item that we love! I absolutely love apple picking, it is one of my favorite fall activities. However it can be hard to fit an apple picking trip into my schedule. That’s why I’m so glad we have a great selection of apples right here at Miller’s! We sell Paula Red, Ginger Gold, Macintosh, Zester, Cortland, Gala, September Wonder, and Empire apples all for $.99 per pound! Honey Crisp’s are $1.99 per pound. You are bound to find a type of apple that you will love! There are so many different ways you can use apples this time of year, so stop by to Miller’s to get yours before the selection dwindles down!

Apples aren’t the only flavor we have tapped into this season! One of the first things I think of when someone says fall is.. pumpkin! Pumpkin is such a festive flavor that so many people look forward to enjoying when fall time arrives. The delicious dishes you can make with pumpkin are endless, and we have a few pumpkin baked goods of our own that we sell in the store. The first being pumpkin cake. It is one of my favorites, and it tastes even better when the air is cool and the leaves are changing to gorgeous bright colors. The homemade cream cheese frosting compliments the yummy spices like no other. Besides our pumpkin cake, new this year we have Jade Miller in the bakery whipping up her very own pumpkin roll cupcakes for our shelf. They are truly delicious. The fall flavors come together for the perfect homemade bite. If you haven’t tried Jade’s new creation yet, hurry over and do so!

Along with these very festive fall items, we also have new items that are perfect for this time of year. We continue to carry classic and locally made maple syrup, which just blends so nicely with this time of year. However, along with the regular maple syrup we recently began carrying Bourbon Barrell Aged Maple Syrup, and it is delicious! It can be used in every way that normal syrup is, just with a slightly different flavor. If you have never tried it, please do! It is a local product, and can be bought for $15.99 per bottle. We also have a small assortment of fall sprinkles that can be used on homemade sugar cookies, or cupcakes! Add a little bit of fall color to your baking! Then of course would it really be fall if we weren’t carrying candy corn and candy creme pumpkins!? We have all the classic fall favorites right here at Miller’s Meat Market as well as a few of our very own homemade fall items.
