Learn About Our Delivery Services!

If you keep up with our Facebook page then you have already heard plenty about our delivery services. However, for those of you who have not yet heard about our new program, I am here to explain! Here at Miller’s Meat Market we are all about serving our customers to the very best of our ability. We do everything we can to make each one of you happy and satisfied, and along with serving our longtime and loyal customers we are also always looking to reach new clientele who are unfamiliar with our store. What better way to meet new customers, then to come right to your area? We now take routes all over our surrounding areas in New York, delivering anything from our store that you need to stock up on. We know we have customers who love our products, but just can’t make the long drive as often as you maybe want to. We have found a way to shorten your trip, and make having Miller’s goods at your home much more convenient. We recently purchased a refrigerated van, and we have since branded it with our Miller’s logo and contact information. We have already tested the waters with a few delivery runs, and have now put together a pretty regular schedule of routes for you to plan around.

*note* - our website is millersmeatmarketny.com NOT .org. We are in the process of correcting the writing on the van.

Here is the list of delivery locations we try and visit once a month. These locations may not always get a monthly trip depending on the popularity of the location, or the number of weeks in a given month. The dates in which we deliver to the certain locations are chosen by us here at Miller’s, so unfortunately you do not get to choose when we deliver to your area. The locations we visit are also quite flexible. If we get feedback that asks for a visit somewhere along our current routes, we could possibly consider adding to our deliver run. We are happy to shorten your distance to getting Miller’s Meat Market products, and meeting you in a central location closer to your home is a great way to achieve that. Behind the Scenes- Our Smoked Meat!

Hello, everybody! This week I am taking you behind the scenes of Miller’s Meat Market, AND introducing you to another one of our employees! A special two in one combo! Today you will be meeting Andrew Johnson, and learning what his role is here at Miller’s. Every Wednesday Andrew is in charge of smoking the store and custom shop items that we need for the week. Allow me to tell you a little more about Andrew, and his meat smoking responsibilities.

Andrew is more commonly referred to by his last name, “Johnson”, by all his coworkers at Miller’s. Andrew graduated from Beaver River Highschool in 2017, and it was that final year of high-school where his involvement in Miller’s began. Johnson was a standout student in the culinary arts program at BOCES his junior and senior year of high-school, and when the time came for Andrew to start an internship at a local business, Miller’s Meat Market seemed to be a good fit for him. After a tour of our facilities, Andrews interest in Miller’s had peeked and he later found out that he would in fact be interning at Miller’s for about six weeks. However, after his internship and graduation from high-school, joining the Miller’s Meat Market team as a paid employee was not Andrew’s immediate next step. Instead, he headed to further his culinary education at SUNY Cobleskill for a semester. Following this semester of college, Andrew decided to return to Miller’s, where he has been working ever since.

Andrew enjoys working at Miller’s for a few different reasons. He is grateful to work where hours are flexible, while at the same time there is always work to do so he knows he will always be putting in the time he needs to. Johnson’s responsibilities are quite widespread, he runs the polyclip machine which packages burger and sausage, he does some stuffing, and also works at the cutting table from time to time depending on how busy things are. He, surprisingly enough, enjoys cleaning the most! He likes working on Saturday’s which are mostly cleaning days for the custom shop. He likes cleaning up his equipment, and organizing the kitchen so that he knows things are ready to run smoothly during the upcoming week. Another job that he would consider a favorite of his would be wrapping scallops in bacon, and skewering them. Some future goals Johnson has are to be able to purchase and move into a house, and get a new car! Andrew has always loved and been interested in the food industry, even outside of work he loves to cook, grill and have barbeques, and he also loves to golf! During his time here at Miller’s Andrew has learned a number of valuable lessons, one of those being how to drive clutch…in Andrew’s earlier years at Miller’s he would smoke ribs out front for our customers to purchase, and one time Andrew was being taught how to move the smoker so that he could take care of it himself after rib barbeques. Well the learning process had it’s hiccups which included damaging the store chimney, Andrew had (accidently of course) driven the tractor into the side of the store due to his lack of knowledge on clutch driving. However, he assured me that he is now an expert, and that he has not harmed any other buildings with any other vehicles since that day. Thank goodness!

What are Andrew’s favorite Miller’s Meat Market products?

He enjoys beef Pepperjack Hotdogs, beef Cheddar Bacon Burgers & Pepperjack Burgers, and he says you can never go wrong with our bacon!

“Adding our bacon to anything automatically makes it better.” -Andrew

Now that you know a little more about Andrew, I want to tell you more about the meat he smokes every Wednesday. Have you ever had any of our deli meat from the store? Well if you have, it was smoked by Andrew! As far as store items go, he makes the pulled pork, smoked sandwich pork loin, smoked turkey breast, and roast beef. These items can be purchased in our retail store, all four of these items are deliciously smoked in house so they have great flavor and can be eaten right from the package! Fresh meat to make great sandwiches! Andrew doesn’t only smoke items for the store, there also is a list of things that can be smoked in the custom shop. When farmers bring their animals to us, we take instructions on how to cut the beef or pork for the farmers customers. There are some smoked meat options, such as smoked pork ribs, beef short ribs, beef brisket, roast beef and we can also make pulled pork or sandwich pork loin from their pig as well. These are all products that Andrew smokes weekly if custom shop customers have these items on their instructions. Some people also may bring us turkey breasts to be smoked, or occasionally fish! When smoking we only use locally sourced cherry wood, every single time! Andrew has been doing this job every week starting sometime in the first year he got employed here at Miller’s, so he has the routine down pat! He is a very valuable employee who has an important job, and he does that job very well. Below are some photos of our deli roast beef, turkey breast, and pork loin.

It has been a pleasure talking about Andrew, and the meat he smokes every week! If you haven’t tried our smoked deli items in the store, what are you waiting for!? Next time you stop by make sure you give them a try, and now you will know who makes those items! If you don’t live nearby, our deli cuts are also available to be purchased online and be shipped to you. I hope you have enjoyed learning a little more about another one of our employees, and getting some behind the scenes insight into the process of smoking our deli meat and other products! Thank you for reading the blog, you know what to do next week!

Have an amazing Tuesday, everybody!

Living Hope Ministries Community Nights!

We love using this blog to talk about the special things going on around our community, and this entry is no exception. There are many local churches around that host family friendly events, and fun things for community members of all ages. I know personally I am so thankful to have so many safe spaces to spend my free time, and have a blast with others that are my age! Right down the road from Miller’s Meat Market is a growing church that has very close ties to this business. If you head into the Watson area, on 6722 Kuntz Road you will see a large yellow and white tent, you can’t miss it! That is where Living Hope Ministries is currently calling home for the duration of the warm weather months. Here in this tent is where they hold Sunday morning worship services, from 9:30 to 11 A.M. However, the outreach efforts from this local church body goes past Sunday morning. Just recently, Living Hope Ministries has started to host “Community Nights” on Wednesday evenings! Any Wednesday this summer from 6:30 to 9 P.M. you can bring your family to the tent location, and enjoy a night of fellowship and fun! These events are perfect for any age, from young to old. There is plenty of space for your young ones to run around with other children and use up all their energy before its time for bed! Youth group age children will have a number of peers to get to know and play outdoor games with, or if it has been a long day for your teens already then they can just relax and chat with the other kids! As far as for adults, there would be people for you to converse with while you keep an eye on your young ones as they have fun. The current plan for each Wednesday evening get together is to have a bonfire for all attendees to gather around, and on that fire there will be some homemade kettle corn being cooked up for everyone to enjoy! It truly looks to be a fantastic time to involve community members in a night of family friendly activities, and have a safe fun evening.

Co-Owner of Miller’s Meat Market, Darrell Miller, is a part of the Living Hope Ministries church body and his family regularly attends the Sunday Morning services, the Community Nights and the youth group activities. Living Hope Ministries pastor, Todd Waugh, is an employee at Miller’s Meat Market as well. Todd and Darrell’s children are regular attendees at the youth group socials and they all love when they get to see and meet some new faces! These community nights are full of fun and fellowship, and you and your family are welcome to come join!

“Community Night” has been a big hit with those who attended the first few, and I asked some of those who went what they thought of the their evening! Here are some of the reviews I got, and I hope you decide to pay Watson a visit on a Wednesday evening and see how well you like it for yourself!

Skyla Miller (17) - “Living Hope community night is so fun and inviting. It’s so fun to hang out and chill with a group of people who are welcoming! It is so nice to be outside by a fire, playing group games and having good food.”

Summer Miller (16) - “It was a night full of laughter and fun! You get to play games and socialize with friends and eat homemade kettle corn that they make right over the fire!!”

Stoan Miller (12) - “I like community night because we play games and have fun with friends.”

Racquel Waugh (12) - “There was a lot of fun stuff that I was able to do like play four square, volleyball, and sitting by the fire to eat some popcorn.”

Gabby Waugh (10) - “It was fun and I got to play cornhole and eat popcorn and hang out with my friends.

Slate Miller (10) - “I like playing games with my friends and eating popcorn that my dad made.”

Rain Miller (8) - “I liked playing volleyball, sitting by the warm fire, eating watermelon and the popcorn was pretty good too!”

If you are interested in learning more about Living Hope Ministries, I encourage you to like their Facebook page so you can keep up with all the activities and services! You can also find more information on their website, livinghopeministriesny.com. If the weather is questionable come a Wednesday evening, see the Facebook page for updates and information on that nights community event. There is a great group of people who would love to meet you, and include you in these evenings of fun!

Thank you all so much for coming to read the blog on this lovely Tuesday!

We hope you enjoyed reading a little bit about this local community outreach, and maybe now if you have nothing to do tomorrow night you can take your family on a little trip to Watson.

Come again next week for some new content on the blog! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far, and have a fantastic rest of your week!

Our Campfire Favorites!

This weather has been absolutely beautiful lately! It’s the time of year when we can’t get enough the outdoors, the sunshine, and family time. This upcoming weekend being the 4th of July, it’s a great time to get together with family and friends and enjoy the sunshine. One of my favorite summertime activities is camping, and 4th of July is a great time to go! I love going to a new scenic place with my family, and enjoying some extra breaths of fresh air. Kicking back and relaxing to the sound of birds chirping, while the sun warms us up until we are ready to cool off in the nearest body of water! My joy levels definitely heighten with the temperatures! As fun as it is getting away for a few days and enjoy a new place, some camping trends can be recreated right at home! My family loves having backyard fires where we all gather around just to visit and enjoy the summer evening air. Invite some friends over and there you have it! The camp vibe has been created! When we camp we always love getting creative with our campfire food. Over the years my Mom has tried some pretty different things, and I can’t say she has failed yet when it comes to campfire snacks! I personally think great food just completes the fun of camping. There is something so special about preparing something delicious over the fire, surrounded by your friends, ready to indulge in great food when it’s already well past bedtime! Here I am to suggest some yummy treats that we have tested and tried here at Miller’s Meat Market! Many ingredients can be found right in our store, and be ordered online! At Miller’s we have all sorts of specialty burgers, hotdogs, brats, and sausages that are great for camping trips and 4th of July cookouts, then of course we also have an array of fresh steak options for grilling as well! We had such a fun time trying some new things so we could share a few new ideas with you. We are excited to hear what you think, and we would love to know what your favorite campfire snack is!

When we were browsing the internet there were so many yummy looking ideas, and we would have loved to try and review every single one of them! But we did have to narrow it down to some of the best looking treats. Now at Miller’s Meat Market you can purchase a variety of fresh produce! We currently are selling strawberries, from now until the end of their season, for $6 a quart. Now you may be wondering… strawberries over a campfire, how could that be good? Well hear us out. It is a super simple little snack, perfect for all ages! All you do is put your strawberry at the end of your roasting stick just like you would a marshmallow. But don’t stop there. The only other ingredient you need is some marshmallow fluff. Dip your strawberry in the marshmallow fluff container, until is deliciously covered in marshmallow goodness. I bet you can guess the next step, just roast that marshmallow covered strawberry over your fire until your white fluff turns to a golden brown. After that, just take a big bite! Your creamy melted marshmallow with a warm berry center will satisfy your craving for something sweet. What an easy snack to try! Just a quart of strawberries and a container of marshmallow fluff to pass around your campfire. We tested this treat, and it gets a 10/10 from us!

Now this next treat is just a special twist on your classic campfire snack, s’mores! All you need is your regular s’more ingredients, however the preparation is a little bit different. We are going to take this basic treat and make into a delicious fireside dip! You will need a skillet pan, or a tin container of some sort so that it is safe over campfire heat. Begin by buttering your container of choice with a very light covering of butter or margarine, then layer your chocolate bars to your liking. If you want to switch it up a bit, start with one layer of chocolate bar and top it with a layer of peanut butter cups on top of that for some extra sweet goodness! Once you have all the chocolate you’d like, just cover the top of your dish with marshmallows. Add some chocolate chips on top, and set your dish on a campfire rack covered in foil. The following step is to just be patient! Wait for all your sweet layers to melt and become one very delicious dip. Once your marshmallows are no longer firm, remove your pan from the fire and let cool for the next few minutes. I bet you could guess what I recommend you dip into this dessert! Graham crackers pull this whole thing together. While your dip is still warm, use your graham crackers to dip into each layer of your campfire cooked s’mores dip! A melted pan of marshmallow and chocolate flavor, delicious! I tried out this dish myself, and yes, it is as good as it sounds! This is a super easy snack, and can be served to a large group of your family or friends! The perfect snack for a late night around the fire, and we have all the ingredients right in our store for you to pick up anytime!

We have gone over a few sweet suggestions that are perfect for around the campfire, but what if you’re looking for a more savory snack? One of my all time favorite campfire snacks are known as “Mountain Pies” and I have loved them ever since I was young. To make mountain pies you need a special pie iron to make your treat. Click the link to see what the iron looks like, you can purchase them right from amazon! So, I am going to tell you about one specific kind of mountain pie, but there are endless variations! Here is what you will need for a pizza mountain pie, and all the ingredient can be found at Miller’s Meat Market! You start out by making sure you square iron is greased with cooking spray oil or butter. Then, lay two pieces of bread in your iron, one on each side of your square iron. Next up, add cheese to your liking on one side of the iron (on top of one piece of your bread). Then, use either diced or sliced up double smoked pepperoni from our store, and place as much pepperoni as you would like onto your layer of cheese. Once you have done this, you close your pie iron. At this point the content inside you pie iron should be layered as a piece of bread, your fillings, and another piece of bread. Now you roast your pie over the fire, and cook it until the bread is golden brown. The edges of your bread will cook and seal together, so after a few minutes you will have a campfire made pizza pocket! Melted cheese and delicious pepperoni all cooked in a crunchy shell, the perfect savory snack! If you would like to put sauce in with your other ingredients you may, but my experience is to dip the finished product into marinara sauce! Now this is just one type of mountain pie you can make, try different things and be creative. Some other variations I have had are peanut butter and jelly, ham and cheese, s’more, or use fruit pie filling! Try some new things with your friends and family next time you need a snack around your backyard fire pit!

Out of these three campfire snack suggestions I hope you’ve seen at least one that caught your attention and appeals to your taste buds! We hope next time you’re preparing camp treats you give one of these ideas a try! We loved every single one of these three options, and we hope you do as well! If you do decide to try some of these ideas we hope you let us know how it goes! We would love to hear what your experience is like when trying our favorite fireside snacks! You can tag us on Facebook and Instagram @millersmeatmarketny to tell us how it goes! We are so grateful to have loyal readers who come see what we have to share every week, and we hope you all keep it up!

Have a fantastic 4th of July weekend with the ones you love, and enjoy some great treats!

Happy Tuesday to all!

Meet your Chicken Barbeque Servers!

We know that so many of our customers are huge fans of our chicken barbeques! Every Friday in the summer months we have marinated chicken halves cooking for you to purchase and enjoy right away! You can purchase a chicken halve for $8, or a whole meal for $10! (Please note these prices are accurate as of June 22nd 2021.) The meal would include your chicken, a roll, chips, and your choice of side, between the delicious options of macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and baked beans! Once you decide what you’d like, we invite you to sit and eat across the road at our picnic tables. The weather is getting nicer, and there is nothing better than barbeque chicken on a beautiful day! I know sitting in the sun isn’t always a blast, but we also sell freshly squeezed lemonade with our chicken barbeques to keep you hydrated with a delightful drink! If you have come to our chicken barbeque in the past, then there is a very high chance you were greeted and served by the young ladies I’m going to introduce you to today! I’d like you to meet our core four chicken servers! Jade Miller, Mia Widrick, Rain Miller, and Brin Miller all have their own jobs when it comes to serving you chicken. They have learned their jobs well, and have fun while working! Occasionally other young helpers are around to do jobs as well, but these four girls are a key part in our Friday barbeques.

Six year old Brin Miller is always excited when Friday comes around, she loves helping out at chicken barbeques! Out of all the girls who serve you, Brin enjoys it the most. She is an ambitious young girl, always looking for a way to be helpful. Brin’s job when it comes to serving chicken dinners is to make sure you get your chips and roll! As soon as you walk up to the table she bounces out of her seat and gets to serving you immediately, ready to put your roll and chips into your to-go container. She also proudly told me that she put the “B”s on the containers of baked beans! If you were to ask Brin which side you should choose with your chicken barbeque meal, baked beans would be her answer! Of all the side options, the beans are her favorite! On occasion Brin get’s to help with the family business outside of chicken barbeques, she can sometimes be found helping in the bakery and glazing the doughnuts our customers love so much! When the chicken barbeque line has died down Brin likes to sip on mountain dew, however she made a point to tell me she doesn’t drink her soda in front of customers. She has work to do then! Next time you come and get some chicken make sure you say hi to this young but hard-working girl!

What is Brin’s favorite Miller’s Meat Market product?

When I asked Brin this question she quickly answered, “the gum!”

As Brin gets older we all hope she realizes we do not make our own gum. :)

Rain Miller has her own role in chicken barbeques, and she is amazing at her job! Rain is 8 years old, and has been helping out with barbeques for a couple of years now. When you order a chicken dinner, Rain will speak right up say “What would you like for a side?” If you aren’t sure what your options are then Rain will happily list them off for you, and put your side container in your to-go box! Rain prefers the macaroni salad out of all the side choices, so if you ask her for an opinion that’s probably what she would say! Rain isn’t a shy young girl, she speaks well to customers at just 8 years old! In the photos of Rain below, you can see her labeling the tops of the side containers so she knows which is which, and you can also see her pursuing her role as the “runner” of the group. If the girls are short on something then Rain is often the one to run along and get what they need. Rain is a spunky youngun with a good sense of humor, but she also knows when it is time to do her job. Now you’ll know the name of the young lady asking what side you want with your chicken dinner!

What is Rain’s favorite Miller’s Meat Market product?

She loves the Appalachian Ch’arki, because it isn’t too spicy!

Mia Widrick is quite experienced when it comes to Friday chicken barbeque serving. She is now 12 years old, but she began working the barbeques when she was 6 or 7 years old. Mia’s main role is to handle the money from customers when they purchase chicken or meals. Back in her early years of helping out, Mia and Jade used to fight on the bus ride to Miller’s over who would get to handle the money that day! It was a coveted job back then! Mia is very mature for her age, and handles the busy Fridays well. She actually really enjoys when things get busy, “I think it’s fun!” she told me. It would be easy for a 12 year old to get overwhelmed with a long line of customers on a hot summer day, but Mia thrives in customer service and does her job well. When things aren’t as crazy, Mia and the other girls past time by playing competitive games of checkers. Maybe you have seen our checker table outside the store, well these girls put it to good use on Fridays! If Mia is hungry during the day the side option she would choose to snack on would be macaroni salad, just like Rain! Make sure you greet Mia with a smile next time she cashes you out at the chicken barbeque table!

What is Mia’s favorite Miller’s Meat Market product?

Mia loves the Maple Snappies!

Jade Miller is who I would consider to be the head of this crew. She is 14 years old, but the chicken barbeques are far from a new experience. Jade estimates she started helping out at the barbeques when she was about 5 years old. Her and her family (Darrell Miller family), moved into the house attached to the store building when she was 5, and she specifically remembers receiving a jean skirt from her Grandma Charlene for her 5th birthday. Jade told me she could recall how “wore it the next day to work at the chicken barbeque.” Jades job is to put your chicken in the to-go container, and occasionally she takes care of the money when Mia is busy with something else. If you ask Jade what side you should choose with your meal she would recommend the potato salad, but she likes macaroni salad just as much. Jade typically comes out to the store around ten o’clock in the morning to set things up, that leaves her about an hour of preparation time before things start moving at the chicken barbeque table! Jade is always overseeing the table, making sure everything is running smoothly and getting done right. She is a great big sister to Rain and Brin and is a hardworking example to the girls.

What is Jade’s favorite Miller’s Meat Market product?

Jade enjoys Hillbilly Ch’arki and Ring Bologna the most!

While these four ladies really keep things on track during our busy Fridays, they aren’t the only young girls helping out around the shop. We have helpers of all ages! Below you can see photos of Mia’s younger sisters! First, Gracia is helping out in the bakery. She was given the job of labeling the sides for chicken barbeque, so that the girls outside know which is which! Aria is in the next photo, also overseeing things in the bakery and helping out with things as she is asked to. Raeleigh can be found following her Grandmother, Charlene, waiting for a job to be given to her. She looks up to the older ladies who work, and can always be found tagging along while they diligently do their tasks! If you see any of these younguns around, be sure to give them a smile or a wave. We love having such bright spirits running around, eager to be helpful at every moment.

A great group of working young ladies.

(Top) Sydnee Miller, Jade Miller

(Bottom) Rain Miller, Brin Miller

This group of girls are nothing but young and hard workers. They are great at what they do, and like to do it! It is so fun for me to introduce our workers to you, each of our employees are valuable in their own special way, and I have found such joy in telling you about the people who make the Miller’s Meat Market experience pleasant for all our customers. If you have been to our chicken barbeque before, then these may be familiar faces. However if you haven’t visited us on chicken barbeque day we hope you do soon, these young ladies would love to meet you! Thank you for coming to see what I had to share today!

Back when the blog first began, we posted a poll so that we would have a good idea of what people really wanted to see and learn about on our blog! Some of those ideas we heard have come to life already, but there are some suggestions that have yet to be showcased, one of those ideas being an in depth write up about what cuts of meat are really the best. Father’s day is coming right up! Read through this blog post to figure out which steak he would like best to cook up on his special day! What’s a better Father’s day gift than some fresh steak to cook up on the grill!? My hope is that by the time you have finished reading this post, you know what steaks are best for your dinner table! Let’s begin!

Tenderloin Filets

Tenderloin Filet steaks would be the most tender cut of beef. Tenderloin filet can also be know as filet mignon. This cut is obviously from the beefs tenderloin, which is an area on the animal that doesn’t get physically strain. The muscle this steak is cut from is not a weight bearing muscle, and contains only a small amount of connective tissues, which is why the steak is so tender. Other areas of the animal that are constantly bearing a lot of weight are not as tender as cuts such as the Tenderloin Filet. Filets are also a part of the Porterhouse steak, the smaller side of meat on a Porterhouse is what we call the Filet. The price of beef tenderloin filets at Miller’s Meat Market is currently $21.99 per pound, or you can purchase 10 pounds of tenderloin for $210! A delicious melt in your mouth steak, perfect for grilling this summer!

Ribeye Steak

Ribeye steaks would be another very popular steak option. Another name you hear for Ribeye is a Delmonico steak, and they are Darrell Miller’s most preferred steak! Delmonico’s are a fairly large steak, but in our store we can cut them to your liking in thickness. This steak is very high-quality and has great marbling, and marbling in meat is important for several reasons. When cooking, marbling adds flavor and juiciness as the fat melts into the steak. The marbling keeps the meat moist, so natural juices don't evaporate in the pan or on the grill. Marbling is fat, so the presence of marbling is determined by the animals diet and genetics. Fat is far more tender than muscle fiber in steak. Ribeye’s are best cooked with dry heat, using methods like grilling or broiling. Our retail store now offers bone in and boneless Ribeye’s. If you come into Miller’s Meat Market for boneless Ribeye steaks you will be charged $19.99 per pound, or $189 for ten pounds!

New York Strip Steak

Another steak to consider for dinner would be the New York Strip. The strip steak is the larger side of meat on the Porterhouse steak. The New York Strip has intense flavor, it is not the most tender but many people love it for it’s good chew and powerful beef flavor. It is a great option for a boneless steak that cooks evenly and quickly. Strip steaks are best when they have distinct fat marbling through the muscles of the beef. Although this cut is less tender than the Ribeye and Filet, it still makes top three! You can purchase New York Strip Steaks at Miller’s Meat Market for $13.49 per pound, or get the bulk price when ordering ten pounds for $129.

Sirloin Steak

Sirloin steaks are typically the most affordable steak. They would be considered to be the fourth most tender, it hits right in between the tougher steaks and the best steaks, and is often a go to choice because of its affordability. This is commonly a boneless steak but can be bone-in, and it offers great flavor. While the top sirloin doesn't have as much marbling as a rib eye or New York strip, it certainly has enough to provide good flavor for a steak. They are still great to throw on the grill, and are by far the best option if you are feeding a group or putting dinner on the table for a large family. Miller’s Meat Market sells boneless sirloin steaks for $10.49 per pound, or order enough for the whole family and get ten pounds for $99.00

Those four steaks are all great in their in own way and for certain things, and they are for sure the top three beef cuts. Another great bone-in option would be T-bone or Porterhouse steaks. Like we stated already, you get the Tenderloin Filet and the New York strip on one steak! Each side of the bone is delicious and great on the grill. But what if you’re not looking to cook steak for the whole family? There are other beef options, such as roasts. If you are looking for a good beef pot roast, Chuck Roast would be the first I’d recommend. Prime Rib roasts are delicious, but can also be pricey so they tend to be popular on holidays or special occasions. Chuck Roasts are affordable, and when cooked low and slow on the stovetop, beef chuck or shoulder roast becomes a fall-apart tender pot roast. This cut requires a slow cook for the best results in flavor. If you are looking for a leaner roast there is always London Broil. A London broil is generally a tough cut of meat, but it has great flavor. If prepared correctly, it becomes a flavorful steak with a nice beefy taste and tender chew. Since it is marinated before being cooked, it will take on the flavors of those ingredients. Currently we sell boneless chuck roasts for $6.19 per pound, and London broils for $6.49 per pound.

So there you go! A short little run down on what cuts of beef you should try! I hope that this write-up was helpful to some of you. Meet our Newlyweds!

I am so excited to introduce Jedidiah and Carolyn Denney! This newly married couple brings so much to Miller’s Meat Market, and I am thrilled to be sharing their story with you! Both Carolyn and Jedidiah are valuable employees here at Miller’s, and working together was just the beginning of their relationship.

Carolyn Lapp started working at Miller’s September 10th, 2015. She works in the custom shop as well as the retail store, in the custom shop she works as a vacuum packer and in the store she helps out in the bakery. Carolyn has been working here for a number of years and she has always been a hard worker who gets things done and is reliable when there is a problem that needs to be solved. Carolyn explained to me that she doesn’t really have one job that she prefers over another, or one position that she enjoys most. She doesn’t mind what she’s working on as long as she is with her co-workers, who are also her close friends. She likes to visit with those around her while she works, and it’s the personal relationships that she loves most about her job.

Jed has not been working at Miller’s as long as Carolyn has, he was the new kid on the block when he and Carolyn first met. Jed’s first day of work was November 13th, 2019 which was a day that Carolyn had off of work, so she had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time on the 14th. Jed also works in both the retail store and the custom shop. In the custom shop he is at the cutting table, cutting beef or pork according the instructions customers give. In the store Jed serves customers from behind the meet counter, and fills store orders throughout the day. Jed told me that his favorite job is simply cutting meat, he likes to be doing hands on work and really get things done in an efficient manner. Jed has become a key part in the retail store, and is a go to person if someone has a question that needs answering.

What Miller’s Meat Market products do Jed and Carolyn like best?

Carolyn really loves the barbeque chicken that we make on Fridays in the summertime, and Jeds favorite is the old style summer sausage.

So, I sat down with Jedidiah and Carolyn and asked them a number of questions about their relationship and how it all started! Obviously, the couple met at work and got to know each other that way initially. Jedidiah was who had initiated the relationship, he first had interest in Carolyn, but he actually didn’t even know Carolyn’s name for about his first two months working! She had known his name because, well, he was the new guy! It took a little longer for Jed to catch on to matching a name with Carolyn’s pretty face. Carolyn told me about her first impression of Jed, she said that he was just so helpful and treated other people with kindness. This was her first impression of him because of the way he had treated her on his very first day of work. On Jedidiah’s first day at Miller’s there was also a brand new freezer trailer that had come in. It was new that day, so there hadn’t been a ramp or steps built for it yet, so it was difficult to get in and out of at that time. That day Carolyn was trying to climb up into the trailer, in a jean skirt, and she could have struggled her way up in there herself without any help but she didn’t need to. Jed reached out his hand and helped her get into the trailer. Yes, a small gesture, but Carolyn noted how quickly Jedidiah was willing to help her, and to this day that is what Carolyn admires most about Jedidiah. His good habit of unconsciously assisting the people that surround him.

Jedidiah and Carolyn’s first date came on the 27th of December, 2019. Jed said it was the night of a Christmas banquet that he was planning on attending, he had finished up at work and headed out to his vehicle. On his way out he passed Carolyn and few other ladies, and he said he assumed they were going to be coming out soon after. So Jedidiah decided to start the girls vehicles for them, and wait for them to come outside so he could ask Carolyn if she would join him at the banquet. Jed said he was waiting for around 30 minutes! After more time than he had anticipated passed by, Jed thought he’d just give up and head home. Then as soon as he was going to shut the cars off that he had been getting warm for his lady co-workers, out they came. Jed did then ask Carolyn to the banquet, but she said no! However, fortunately she didn’t shut him down completely. Carolyn suggested something a little more casual and the two of them decided to head to the movie theater in Watertown to see “Spies in the Skies”. Carolyn said that she was clueless, she had no idea about Jedidiah’s interests in her! They eventually started dating officially on January 12th 2020. They’re dating was pretty casual, they mostly enjoy getting milkshakes and then going up and sitting under the windmills, talking and enjoying the view. In order to spend more time with Carolyn, Jedidiah would tell his family he was working late and go to the windmills with her. Jed plays softball, and Carolyn would always go to his games and then of course they would go to the windmills afterwards to have good conversations and enjoy each other’s company under the stars. Under the windmills was they’re favorite spot to go, and eventually it would become even more special to them than it already was. On August 25th, 2020 Jedidiah proposed to Carolyn under the windmill that they would always go to. Carolyn said that once again she was clueless and caught off guard, but nevertheless knew her answer to his question. The couple became engaged, and on their path to marriage. Carolyn explained to me that she has had a heart shaped ring for years, she always wore it and loves it. While Jed was ring shopping for his future wife he laid his eyes on a heart shaped engagement ring and he knew it was the one for Carolyn. The wedding planning was exciting and stressful, but of course the couple kept looking forward to the happy day that was ahead of them. Carolyn found her perfect wedding dress on her first trip looking and her bridesmaids dresses were handmade by a local seamstress. When talking to Jed a few days before the wedding, I asked if it felt like the wedding came quickly! He explained that the month of September, their first full month engaged, the days and weeks seemed to drag on. However, the months after that did indeed seem to fly by. On April 10th, Jedidiah and Carolyn joined together in marriage.

Carolyn and Jed have plans to be working at Miller’s Meat Market for the foreseeable future. We are blessed to have such great employees working here at Miller’s, not only are the Denney’s both hard working but also caring and kind people. I have loved getting to know Jed and Carolyn in my time working here at Miller’s, and all of the Miller’s Meat Market staff is wishing them the very best as they start this new chapter together. It has been my absolute pleasure to introduce this newlywed couple, and tell about their love story that all started at our store.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Jedidiah and Carolyn Denney! Thank you for reading this weeks blog! There will be another one coming your way on Tuesday, so come and read again then!

Have a great week, everyone!

Memorial Day Skewers!

Memorial day is coming up! A time to honor all of those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom, and an opportunity to spend time with our families in the nice weather. I love memorial day weekend! There is always bound to be a cookout going on at some point, and of course with that comes delicious food! Here at Miller’s Meat Market we are huge fans of the grilling season, but what’s something a little different to throw on the grill when you have a crowd to feed? Kabobs and skewers! We prepare a few options of meat on a stick that would be a great hit during the summer months when grilling is a nightly thing. When grilling kabobs you can be as creative as you’d like, and the flavorful combinations are endless! Here are just a few ideas of things you can grill on a stick this upcoming memorial day weekend and for the remainder of the summer!

Bacon Wrapped Scallops!

At Miller’s Meat Market you can purchase bacon wrapped scallops for $15 per skewer.

Seafood paired with bacon?! It surely doesn’t get any better than that. These bacon wrapped scallops come to you pre-wrapped and skewered, so all that you have left to do is grill them up and enjoy! They are a customer favorite in the summer months, so call now and order them for your memorial day cookout! Maybe you have already planned out what’s on the menu for this weekend, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get some for you and your family to try. You can order as many or as few as you would like. Scallops isn’t where the seafood and bacon collaboration ends, have you ever tried bacon wrapped shrimp!?

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Skewers

We no longer sell these pre-made at Miller’s Meat Market, however we do have all the ingredients! But we do have a different pre-made shrimp skewer option!

Try our new marinated shrimp skewers!

$6 per skewer!

Shrimp is on the top of my summer meal list. There are so many ways to enjoy it with so many different flavor options to try. Shrimp and bacon, what could go wrong!? Two delicious flavors that only get better when cooked over a grill in the summer. Skewers are an easy way to serve a group, and they’re a little bit out of the ordinary from all the other things you can typically grill. Here at Miller’s you can purchase a pound of bacon for $6.99, or spruce up your skewers with a sweet touch and use maple bacon for $7.99 per pound! Then you can buy shrimp, two pounds for $10 and you have all the ingredients you need for bacon wrapped shrimp! The meat is bitesize so it is an easy meal for most ages, and can satisfy any craving for a savory snack. However, if you are looking for some seafood that comes to you pre-skewered and seasoned, try marinated shrimp skewers! New this year! We plan to have these available throughout summer time, so you can order them for all your family barbeques, especially your memorial day get together! Each skewer has 5 shrimp, seasoned deliciously with our lemon garlic marinade. They are a must try! So now we’ve seen how well bacon can be paired with seafood on skewers, but what about just bacon itself?

This is our signature “Cowboy Bacon”! This candied bacon on a stick has been getting positive reviews ever since we first started selling it. Our recipe is quite simple, we just skewer the slice of bacon and then cover it with brown sugar and ground pecans! We make ours in a small smoker, but you can also bake them in the oven! It is a sweet delicious way to end dinner, a yummy way to start the day at breakfast time, or a perfect snack any hungry moment in between. If you don’t have time on your hands to make it yourself, we sell cowboy bacon almost every Thursday and Saturday. You can get 3 sticks for $5, or they are $2 a piece. Now that I’ve suggested a few meat combinations you can put on skewers and use on kabobs, I have one more festive suggestion for your memorial day weekend meal. Fruit kabobs can be perfect for dessert or a side to a main meat dish, and they can be enhanced with a large range of flavors!

With the correct colored fruit you can celebrate memorial day while you eat! By using red fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, or apples, blue fruit such as blackberries or blueberries, and a white element like bananas, angle food cake bites, or marshmallows, you can create a red, white and blue pattern in your delicious fruit kabobs! A fun and tasty treat for on a warm day this upcoming memorial day weekend, or anytime this summer! I read many ways that you could enhance your fruit kabobs. You could cut watermelon into fun shapes using small cookie cutters and put those on a skewer! Perhaps you could add bite size brownies in between your fresh fruit, or drizzle chocolate syrup or a dusting of powdered sugar on top. So many possibilities! Try out some kabobs this weekend while cooking out with friends and family!

All prices featured in this post as accurate as of 5/25/2021. They are subject to change at any time.
